Graeme Souness believes Diego Costa was overly aggressive towards Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte when he seemed to request to be substituted against Leicester City on Saturday. Costa, who would have missed next Sundays meeting with Man Utd had he picked up a fifth booking of the season, appeared to gesture to the bench in the second half of Chelseas 3-0 victory over the defending champions.Conte confirmed after the match he ignored Costas plea because he preferred to focus on Leicester rather than look ahead to the Super Sunday clash, and Souness felt the striker was too forceful in his approach. Antonio Conte was pleased with the intensity Chelsea used during their 3-0 win over Leicester at the Bridge He was a bit aggressive towards his coach, unnecessarily so, Souness told Sky Sports. He [Conte] is the boss, not Diego. He is saying I cant trust myself to be on, so get me off. Just go through the game and dont get involved.I dont believe anyone should talk to the manager like that. Thats a tad aggressive, for me, from a player. Costa celebrates after scoring against Leicester Costa opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge with his seventh league goal of the season, setting Chelsea on their way to a comfortable win over Claudio Ranieris side.Former Chelsea forward Gianluca Vialli agreed with Souness, but said emotions can occasionally get the better of players in the heat of the moment.I think sometimes we need to understand players when they are on the pitch because it is a theatre, theres pressure, you feel exposed and emotions can run, he added. The Browns, who have been shuttling quarterbacks on and off the field all season, finally got some good news on that front: Campbells ribs are only bruised.WASHINGTON - Hard to believe that the Washington Redskins, who havent beaten anyone other than the Jacksonville Jaguars in the last 326 days, could be overconfident about anything. But thats the malady that first-year coach Jay Gruden sensed during a 45-14 prime-time embarrassment against the New York Giants. Sometimes you need a beating like this to let people know that you have a lot of work to do, Gruden said Friday. Reality check has come in, in full force. The Redskins were banged up on both sides of the ball and were playing on a short week a€” which would seem to quash any notion of complacency a€” yet Gruden said his players were perhaps feeling too good about themselves following a 31-point win over the woeful Jaguars in Week 2 and a close-call loss to the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Im hoping this is a wake-up call, a slap in the face, that, Hey youre not as good as you think you are, Gruden said. You have a lot more work to do than you think you do. ... We cant just put our uniform on and jog onto the field, act like were going to beat peoples butt without working. We have a work a little bit harder. The Redskins were simply manhandled by the Giants on Thursday night. Kirk Cousins committed five turnovers and fell to 1-5 as a starter, giving the kind of performance that will quickly end any conversation about a quarterback controversy when Robert Griffin III is healthy again. Gruden said his defence posed no physical threat to New Yorks offence, allowing Eli Manning to get rid of the ball quickly because the receivers were running with barely a hindrance. Its called bump and run for a reason, said Gruden, putting a particular emphasis on the word bump. Gruden said pass-rushers Jason Hatcher (hamstring) and Brian Orakpo (finger) were hindered by injuries, but they probably wouldnt have made much of an impact if healthy because Manning was releasing the ball so quickly.dddddddddddd. The roughest night of all, however, belonged to Cousins. The Giants defensive backs said he was telegraphing some of his throws, and Gruden agreed. Hes a young guy playing a position, and young guys playing that position at this level tend to make mistakes from time to time, Gruden said. Weve just got to make sure he sees his throws a little bit better, and his eyes are in the right spot. Theres a couple of them where he stared down the receiver, and the safety came over and made an easy pick. Gruden added that Cousins wasnt getting much help. Were not going to hold Kirks head under the water right now, the coach said. Were going to keep him composed and getting better, and hes going to be fine next week. The Redskins also committed 11 penalties a€” double-digits for the third straight week. Gruden said his team isnt talented enough to overcome such mistakes. Were going to have a lot of close games, he said. We dont have the personnel right now to line up and beat anybody handily. The schedule only gets tougher. Theres a long wait before a Monday night game against the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 6, followed by a long trip to face the Arizona Cardinals. The extra time will help heal the injuries; Gruden and his staff will work on the psychological part. Weve got to get our bodies healthy, weve got to get our minds healthy, and weve got to make sure our commitments in the right spot, Gruden said. We can still do a lot of damage and still achieve all our goals. ' ' '
